Insurance supplement estimating services for contractors

A supplement estimate is a tool used by contractors to show property insurance carriers that there are more extensive damages to a property than what was listed on the original claim paperwork prepared by the adjuster. It is a comprehensive estimate of repairs needed after highly qualified and reputable contractors have assessed the losses to the property.

Insurance normally requires 7 to 10 business days to review a supplement and send a revised claim. Elevation Estimating guarantees getting the supplement request to insurance within 2 days of a complete submission and will follow up on the submission multiple times weekly to expedite the process. However, when adjustors encounter a backlog due to a major storm event, the insurance review process can take 30 days at the minimum.

Any requests, including any revisions can be made through email at [email protected]. Revisions requested before the completed supplement is returned will be free of charge. Any revision requests made after the return of the initial supplement estimate will be an additional $25. Rest assured, the writer’s analysis will cover most if not all needs, most if not all of the time. Most revisions requested are oddities or very specific pieces not found on the majority of projects.

Absolutely! The insurance company will not approve supplement requests without the evidence to back them up. Taking clear photos at the time of inspection as well as during the tear off and at completion are vital to getting a supplement approved.

The homeowner should always be aware of what is happening with their property and their insurance company. Simply communicate with them from the time of the initial meeting that an insurance supplement may be required for the roof installation to be accurately paid for. Clearly communicate with them that a supplement’s purpose is to request missed materials and labor, changes in material pricing from the time of the adjustor’s assessment, and code items that may only be paid for when the cost is incurred.

No. Insurance supplements are a common process that most adjustors expect as part of the claims process. Most insurance adjusters are not trained experts in any particular contracting field and may come from out of state and not be fully familiar with local codes or pricing. An insurance supplement simply lists adjustments that need to be made to fix any errors or omissions.

It starts with a property claim summary, and knowing what everything on that summary means. Next, having dozens of photos of the damage you as the contractor sees on the property. When the comparison between what you see and what is on the claim is different, then it is necessary to submit a supplement estimate to the insurance carrier. A document that outlines what you have determined is needed, including all the pieces/work missing from the claim and the photos and support for why it needs to be added. When needed, it is good to supplement the claim ahead of time for all things that are required to bring the property prestorm. But often supplements are submitted after the work has started, after the discovery of pieces and work that cannot be seen before it begins.
The insurance carrier then reviews the contractors supplement and approves the needed pieces/items, as the policy allows. Then they send the revised and more complete estimate back.

Absolutely! Roofing is where we got started. The number of trades we can supplement has increased, but roof claims were the first we worked on. Whether it be asphalt shingles, tile, or metal, even rubber and membrane roofs, we are experts in roof supplements.

Yes we can! Having a well written and supported estimate, expertly curated with photos and code information, helps to present a convincing case to the insurance to over turn a denied claim. Often claims are denied because the adjuster is not capable of seeing what damage exists after a peril.

Most insurance carriers use Xactimate™ to write their homeowner’s claims. A professional supplement writer, like Elevation Estimating, LLC, will have well qualified and certified Xactimate users to ensure the most complete and correct supplements. There is a lot to navigate in the Xactimate software, the proper line items will make all the difference in getting paid for the work and materials needed for any repair. A professional supplement writer will know exactly what to put on that estimate to cover the job needs.
